About Paranoia Text Encryption

Why Use Paranoia Text Encryption?

In an era of mass surveillance and frequent data breaches, sending plain-text information via email or chat is a significant security risk. Paranoia Text Encryption (PTE) solves this by providing a "zero-knowledge" environment. By using the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a 256-bit key, we ensure that even if your data is intercepted, it remains unreadable to anyone without the correct password.

This application is specifically designed for users looking for a secure online encryptor that doesn't require trust in a third-party server. Our use of WebAssembly and JavaScript means the heavy lifting—the math—happens on your device, not ours.

Technical Deep-Dive: AES-256 & Argon2

For those interested in the cryptography behind the scenes, PTE utilizes AES-256 in EAX mode. Unlike simpler modes like ECB, EAX provides both confidentiality and authenticity. This means the system can detect if the encrypted text has been tampered with or modified.

To protect against "brute-force" and "rainbow table" attacks, we utilize Argon2, the winner of the Password Hashing Competition. Argon2 makes it computationally expensive for an attacker to guess your password by requiring significant memory and time to process each guess, significantly increasing your security against modern hardware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Issue: The output changes every time I encrypt the same text. Why?

Answer: This is a security feature called cryptographic salt. It ensures that patterns in your data cannot be analyzed by attackers.

Issue: I forgot my password. Can you recover my data?

Answer: No. There is no backdoor. The security of AES encryption relies entirely on the password. Without it, the data is unrecoverable.

Issue: Is this application quantum-proof?

Answer: Yes. AES-256 (Symmetric encryption) is considered secure against quantum computing threats, unlike standard public-key cryptography (such as RSA or ECC).

Issue: Can I use this for Cryptocurrency Seeds?

Answer: Yes. Many users use PTE to encrypt BIP39 recovery mnemonics or private keys before storing them in cloud storage. By encrypting your seed phrases with a strong password here, you add an extra layer of protection (encryption at rest) against cloud account compromises.

Issue: Is it safe to use an online encryption tool?

Answer: Generally, "online" tools that send your data to a server are not safe. However, Paranoia Text Encryption is a client-side tool. You can even load this page, disconnect your internet, and it will still work perfectly. This architecture ensures your private keys and plain-text data stay offline.
