How to Hide Data in Images

To Hide Data (Encrypt):
1. Set a strong password in the top field.
2. Choose Text or File and input the secret data you want to hide.
3. Select a carrier JPEG image (Note: The larger the image resolution, the more data it can hold).
4. Press Hide Data. Once processed, download your new, secure steganogram.

To Reveal Data (Decrypt):
1. Enter the exact same password you used during the hiding process.
2. Navigate to the "Reveal" tab and select the steganogram JPEG image (example).
3. Press Reveal Data. The hidden text or file will appear and can be saved or copied.

About this Image Steganography Tool

Technical Deep-Dive: F5 & J-UNIWARD Algorithms

Basic steganography tools use a technique called Least Significant Bit (LSB) replacement, which is highly vulnerable to statistical attacks and histogram analysis. Paranoia Works Image Steganography uses much more advanced techniques to guarantee secrecy.

Depending on your settings, this tool employs either the F5 algorithm or J-UNIWARD. Instead of altering pixels directly, these algorithms embed your encrypted data into the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients of the JPEG during the compression phase. Furthermore, matrix-coding is used to minimize the number of changes required to the file. This ensures maximum data capacity while remaining practically undetectable to steganography analysis tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Issue: Will the image look different after I hide data in it?

Answer: No. The changes made to the image are mathematically microscopic. To the human eye, the original carrier image and the final steganogram look completely identical.

Issue: Can I send the steganogram via WhatsApp, Messenger, or Discord?

Answer: Be careful. Social media platforms and chat apps heavily compress images to save server space. This re-compression destroys the hidden data inside the JPEG's code. To safely send a steganogram, you must transmit it losslessly (e.g., via Email as an attachment, Dropbox, Google Drive, or by sending it as a "Document" rather than a photo in chat apps).

Issue: I forgot my password. Can I still recover the hidden file?

Answer: No. The data is secured using AES-256 encryption before it is hidden. Without the password, it is mathematically impossible to retrieve the data.
